I do not like New year’s dish when I was a child.
I just had kept having only sweet dish, such as Kurikinton (mashed sweet potato with sweetened chestnut) and Datemaki(baked egg roll) .
I was taught each Osechi dish have means, Osechi is very important Japanese traditional dish, Osechi is the only dish we can eat while New Year days that was because there were any shops open during New Years day by my parents. Yes, I remembered such situation that we could not by foods near my neighbor shop…because all supermarket closed during that days!
“I would like to have bread…” “I would like to have natto and rice” I remember I said such complain to my mother.
But, my memory surrounding Osechi was beautiful and well sophisticated and I like New Year.
Not Yew Years gift, not lively with our relative, I might like New Year’s air and colorful Osechi dish and some atomosphere.
I, who did not like Osechi dish make Osechi dish every year for my family.
Of course I am said from my child same kind of things.
And I am saying to my child same kind of thing as my mother.
This is succession of tradition?
Even if I am said from my child “I would like to have bread” “I would like to have natto and rice” I keep making Osechi every year and I hope to keep this happy New Year surrounding beautiful Osechi with my family.
